Disaster Could Strike Anywhere, at Any Time.
Are you ready? Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. It can force you to evacuate your neighborhood or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services -- water, gas, electricity or telephones -- were cut off? Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone right away.
Many people believe that in the event of a disaster, emergency services will rush to their front door to aid them.
Unfortunately this is not usually the case. When a disaster strikes, services may be stretched to their limit leaving citizens to fend for themselves.
Drawing on the experiences of various communities, this film helps community leaders teach citizens that instead of being totally reliant on the government and emergency services, they can take steps to empower themselves, and it is easier than you may think. Something as simple as picking up a few extra bandages or batteries for their disaster kit can go a long way in surviving the effects of an emergency.
With their newly gained disaster prep knowledge they and their families will feel confident about dealing with any emergency.

Reviews:
Although library video collections often carry a good selection of first aid and personal safety videos, these programs are unlikely to offer guidance on how to react to a truly catastrophic event such as a flood, earthquake, tornado, hurricane, or out-of-control fire. Condition Red, while acknowledging the fact that on one can completely prepare for a natural disaster, presents some sound ideas for handling emergencies: from having a plan and putting together a "disaster kit," to suggestions for maintaining contact with family members during a crisis and what to do with family pets. Although afflicted communities can expect aid from governmental agencies, these services usually arrive after the fact, making the initial-response information continued in this program potentially valuable to individuals and families, as well a solid training resource for law enforcement professionals and emergency aid centers.
