An inspiration to families:

This program is an inspiration to families who are struggling with a family member's addiction, and a warning to parents who think that something like this could never happen to them.

This is the story of an American family that did everything right, or appeared to. Cheryl Sales and her husband Todd were involved parents, carefully selecting which schools their children attended.  Strong Christian beliefs and regular church attendance were their bedrock.  Yet by age 16, their son Josh was having trouble fitting in.  In their own words, they tell the story of Josh's growing drug addiction, his trouble with the law, and his difficult recovery.

Their story helps teach parents about setting boundaries and limits - one of the most difficult tasks facing parents today.

Adolescent drug users will be able to identify with Josh's story and feelings. His statements of denial will be all too familiar and many may see for the first time the havoc their behavior has caused others.

Parents of adolescent drug users will realize that not being perfect is normal. They will also be able to see another family go through the same frustrations and see how they deal with it. They will also learn how to help contribute to the recovery effort.

What your Audience will Learn:

  • What leads a child to try drugs
  • The denial that makes addiction possible
  • Sighs that there may be a drug problem
  • How the drug addict cons professionals as well as the family
  • Elements of an effective treatment program
  • What it means to accept accountability
  • How the corrections and treatment systems can help
  • Never give up on your child!

See how an active support system can make a difference in the life of a young user. You may just be surprised at how this story turns out.

Why We Made this Film:

We created this film because when a family raises a child who make bad choices, the family almost always believes they did something wrong or failed in some other way. Learning how to deal with the pain is difficult and feelings of isolation is normal. Young people also have to know that when they make those bad choices, it isn't the end of the world. There are people out there who care. Families need to see this film so they can learn how one family was able to come to terms with the actions and addiction of a child.

Many people have said that this is our best work.

Reviews:

"This video will help you start discussions with families about boundaries, consequences, and enabling behaviors. It will ease the parents' guild about setting boundaries with their kids."
Carol Law, On Track, Inc, Medford, OR

"This is a video that every family in America should watch together. I feel so confident of its positive impact for prevention that I will be using it in an upcoming series of presentations to local service clubs, schools, and other community events."
Bill Kinnett, Exec. Director, Step II, Bakersfield, CA
